No LAN cable plugged in (no internet nor intranet). Using wifi from a mobile device. 3G signal is at lower value and have some fluctuations, for short time it can disconnect then immediately reconnect.

The problem:

every time 3G is disconnecting/reconnecti4g the wifi interface is restarting ! This is not good at all because the device (e.g. smartphone) connected to wifi lose connection and must reconnect. All programs using that connections must be restarted (e.g. If I was listening to internet radio station I must reconnect first to wifi then search again for the radio station)

My opinion is that the 3G disconnect/reconnect has to be transparent for the wifi user, not disturbed by wifi disconnects.
Ticket #1105 may improve also this situation...

3,561,WEP support broken on Fonera 2.0n: 2.2.6.0-2.3.5.0,fon-wifi,Other,,bug,john.crispin@…,testnewer,2010-01-19T11:44:28Z,2010-06-08T14:37:53Z,"Hello!

I tried to enable 64&128 WEP encryption with Fonera 2.0n (two units). I loaded firmwares 2.2.6.0, 2.3.0.0 and 2.3.5.0.

WPA encryption works normally, but I need WEP because of compatibility with older devices and there are some performance issues with WPA. This is for a multi AP network with roaming support.

Description of the bug:
When setting a WEP encryption with key, my Windows notebook comes up with this error:
""Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again.""

Instead, it should ask me for the WEP key! Tried and rebooted several times.

With other APs, WEP works normally. With 2.0n, it also works with WPA. I tried to set up the wireless.public.key=1, and .key1=ACTUAL_KEY (also with config.sh script from uci fon), but still doesn't work. Other wireless devices would detect WEP network, ask me for the key, but none would get accepted.

I could not access the actual WEP settings from the Ralink chip, as iwlist doesn't work fully.

Proposed solution:
check what WEP settings do actually get sent to the Ralink wireless chip. It should be easy to key in a 64-bit WEP (also with leading zeroes) and get it to work withing a minute.",zencoslav@…

3,878,Duplicate html <form> tags when using SimpleForms,fon-base-firmware,2.3.6.0 (Gari),,bug,,confirmed,2010-08-17T14:08:05Z,2010-08-17T14:08:40Z,"While debugging #644, it became apparent that in some cases, there are duplicate (nested) form tags. The particular problem in #644 has been fixed, but this duplication might need some cleanup later on. For now, we'll leave this be, since it works and will require a fairly invasive change to luci requiring lost of testing.

Here's the original comment describing the problem:

Furthermore, it seems that the HTML generated for SimpleForm is broken, it includes the header and footer with the <form> and </form> tags twice (once from header.htm and footer.htm included by dispatcher.lua and once directly from the simpleform.html template.

r504 tried to fix this for the Wizard (which uses SimpleForm), but this fix is incomplete since it doesn't suppress the footer (the wizard still contains double </form> tags) and it doesn't fix other uses of the SimpleForm. This fix is also not really the right way to fix this either, since it needs noheader/nofooter settings in the controller, depending on whether Map of SimpleForm was used in the cbi files.

AFAICS, the proper fix for this problem would be to just remove the header/footer stuff from simpleform.htm and rely on the header and footer included by dispatcher.lua always. A bit more reading shows that this is exactly what the Form class (a subclass of SimpleForm) does by setting the ""embedded"" attribute, which supresses the header and footer of the simpleform.htm template. Using Form for the Firewall -> Applications page also fixes the cancel button (though I've not completely grasped why yet).

However, in the wizard, just changing to Form might not be enough. In particular, the downloadmanager wizard steps already use the Form class, but explicitly include the map_head.htm template (for example at the bottom of dlmanager_mu.lua). So perhaps the noheader is still appropriate here (since the dlmanager_mu.lua also includes the custom wizard head and head_darkorange, which are normally included via header.htm from fon.lua (but the latter contains an override not to include any header in the wizard).

So in the end, most of it works out, but here and there there a few duplicate headers or footers. Changing from SimpleForm to Form is probably fine everywhere outside of the wizard. In the wizard, things look a bit more complicated, I'm not sure what the best fix for that is (since there still are some duplicate footers in the SimpleForm cases). ",matthijs

I have also tried with 2.3.7.0 beta 3 and RC1 and Tinyproxy 1.6.4 from http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/8.09.2/rb532/packages/.

The problem arises after using the configuration explained above: Connecting LaFonera through SSH and using Tinyproxy as a proxy.

After browsing a little (few minutes) at the console of SSH begins to show multiple messages:
channel XXX: open failed: unknown channel type:

If i restart tinyproxy things starts to run again, but after few minutes it returns.

I have been using LaFonera with this scenario long time ago. There have been any changes in my Fonera configuration, only the location from I connect to SSH.

Accessing internet from this location without proxy don't show any problem.
There is no problem also when using internet connected at home directly to LaFonera.

My OS is Ubuntu 12.10. Firefox 17.0 and Firefox Nightly 20.0.

I don't know the way of debugging the problem, could you tell me some steps to try to search where the problem is?.

Charudatt, two more questions: You say ""entering your credentials did

 Directory of Z:\Disc-A1

File Not Found

}}}

What gives? File Not Found? Are you kidding me?

I have tried an awful lot:

 - I have tried a minimal smb.conf
 - I have tried different codepages (437, 850, ASCII, UTF8...)
 - I have installed an older (2.x) version of Samba on the FON2202
 - I have tried it on a share of the root of the FON2202 instead of /tmp/mounts
 - I have tried other USB devices
 - I have tried almost all relevant smb.conf parameters and combinations of them
 - I have tried uppercase, lowercase, all sorts of combinations of wildcards (*,?)
 - I have tried flipper and paco on the FON2202

to no avail; always File Not Found whenever I use wildcards from a command prompt on a samba share using DIR, COPY, DEL or any other command that accepts wildcards. And I desperately need wildcards in my batch files...

Windows itself works fine; any dialog box that allows filtering using wildcards works fine (for instance notepad.exe when opening a file allows to specify wildcards in its file open dialogue box). So it must be some combination between the command interpreter under Windows (as I said; both COMMAND.COM as well as CMD.EXE show this odd behaviour), Windows XP SP3, CIFS and the Samba/OpenWRT config on the FON2202 that is causing this.

I have two other small Linux boxes here running Samba (2.x and 3.x) and on these machines it all works as expected... i.e. it can't be my Windows clients. It must have something to do with Samba or OpenWRT on the FON2202.

The same problem occurs when trying to accessing the FTP server when the HDD is idle. The user is logged in to the server but no folders are found. You need to disconnect from the server, wait a few seconds (until the HDD is ""spinned up"") and then logon again to be able to access the folders (or constantly hit the F5 button for 10-15 seconds).

I used to have the 2.3.6.1 version with about 70 torrent files running continuously on my fonera 2.0n. I used remote transmission and was able to deal with it very easily. After the update to 2.3.7.0RC1 I noticed that the new transmission did not recognize the old ""torrent list"" after I installed the app in the same partition of my fonera attatched disk.

I figured this was because of the update on transmission version, and tried re-uploading the files (or most of them...about 50 in a row). I unchecked the ""start torrent"" as I wanted the fonera to simply check for the files availability at firs.

It worked for some hours, in which I even was able to check the torrnents status (and follow the ""verifying"" stage) through remote transmission gui. But the next day, something had apparently gone wrong and the transmission access was cut. I tried rebooting the fonera for several times unsuccessfully. The most annoyng thing is that I can't even open web transmission nor stop the app via the fonera dashboard (where I see the message ""torrent is currently running"" but can't see the neither of the files nor the options to shutdown the app.)

I will now try to re-install the RC1 and see if that gets my fonera a new ""blank list"" of torrents.

I think this might be some sort of a bug when trying do deal with multiple torrent uploads.. maybe the fonera just can't handle the exhausting verifications that follow. All my torrents were/are from a single tracker: torrentleech, and I've never had problems before RC1, apart from some weird ""apparently"" disconected disk, that wouldn't let me access the files through network unless I rebooted the fonera, after which the problem would be over.

Is Kerenl 2.3.0.1 RC1 supporting this modem???
Do I have to do anything to use my modem on the fonera 2.0???

3,833,USB Disc settings doesn't list device numbers,fon-base-firmware,2.3.7.0 rc2,,enhancement,,confirmed,2010-06-17T17:53:53Z,2012-12-20T10:02:08Z,"When looking in the filebrowser disks are identified by their name. In the case when they haven't been named yet, names like ""Disc-A1"" are used.

When looking in the USB disc page on the dashboard, a list of disks (partitions) is presented, identified by the size of the partition. This page allows giving each partition a more friendly name, so it is easier to tell them apart.

However, there is no clear way to tell the partitions apart, if you don't know the sizes in advance. If there are partitions with identical size, there is really no way. You can't use the filebrowser to see which disk is which, since the filebrowser doesn't list these sizes.

I guess it would be useful to add the current name of each disc to the USB discs page (probably only when the setting is still ""Automatic"").",matthijs

I just received my fonera 2.0n and installed latest firmware 2.3.6.0

My vodafone dongle K3765 is not recognised thus I cannot use the fonera. I tried several settings in the UMTS/3G section but none helped.

I found a discussion on http://www.mail-archive.com/wireless@ml.ninux.org/msg02277.html where somebody managed to get the K3765 running but this seems to be linux tools and I am no expert in Linux.

Hope you can help,

For a hotspot service that allows aliens to connect to your internet connection this is a big fail!

Perhaps it would be interesting to support OpenDns FamilyShield :
https://www.opendns.com/familyshield/

At the moment it is possible to add eg the Dns of Opendns...
but anyone who wants to use another ""dns"" server is allowed to do so
The IpTables on La Fonera will not send all DNS traffic to the configured opendns...
This also allows people to use DNS-tunnelling to avoid the Fonera Captive Portal

I want to share 2 printers on my fonera but can only get 1 at a time to work.
I have an Epson printer and a Canon fax printer and when I first plug-in the Epson printer to my hub (that's connected to the Fonera), it works fine. But when I plug-in the Canon fax printer too, the Epson printer won't work! It disappears in the printer settings menu in the Fon GUI and it's not possible to print by using port 9100.
Doesn't the fonera support multiple printers?
Do I have to use another port?

I updated the Fonera 2.0n from Gari to Gari junior.
After installing the update, I clicked on torrent on FON Router GUI page. There was only a install button available.

Solution:
I did not understand it, because the torrent plugin has nothing to do with the Fonera update. I looked at the FoneraApps folder and I discovered why it was not working. Because the version-number changes, the torrent file names change too.

I updated the file names and Tranmission is up and running again.

I've had a couple of Fonera 2.0n:s for about a year or so and finally thought of contacting you guys. Been struggling for the whole time to get an UMTS device working.

The support for the Nokia CS-17 Internet Stick, Huawei E1820 and Huawei E169 would be -very, very- much apprecciated, in this order of importance. As long as you haven't had a CS-17 in a linux machine before, it even comes with it's own variety of Linux drivers. Maybe they would be of help?

I made the mistake of installing the ""nokiainternetmodem.deb"" package so can't find any way to get my hands back to the ZeroCD drivers, which apparently are nowhere else to be found. At the moment (10/12/20), Linux Mint 10 does not recognize the stick at all, and Ubuntu 10 does the same after I removed the driver package to get my hands back to the ZeroCD files. Apparently Nokia's modeswitch shows different disk content for Windows and Linux enviroments.

Anyway, in my opinion the trouble with Fonera 2.0n is the lack of real support for umts-modems. Whereas other routers got a pull-down menu where to choose the right make+model from, the Fonera2 seems to try going around ZeroCDs with only the usb-modeswitch, some luck and with a very general set of commands.

So far I modified at least the developer firmwares 2.3.6.1 and 2.3.6 (since SSH access is required to modify the files) and got unstable but usable connectivity with a Huawei E169. It takes less than 24h for the system to choke. Removing the dongle for a while might help, but normally a full power off is required. Got a powered USB-hub for it, too. With the dongle connected the overall system performance drops like the tail of a cow.

My quick and dirty fixes for the E169 were based mainly on http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/FON2-Tweak-3G-Irish3 , modifying numbers of the used usb-devices, '/dev/ttyUSB0' etc.

With the recent Nokia CS-17 I tried another approach with the usb-modeswitch, introducing it in ""/etc/config/network"" as ""config 'interface' 'ppp0'"" and updating the ""/etc/config/firewall"" with lines
        option 'mtu_fix' '1'
        option 'network' 'wan ppp0'
, but in the end couldn't get usb-modeswitch to ""eject"" the drive. ""cat /proc/bus/usb/devices"" gave me these values for the stick:

T: Bus=01 Lev=02 Prnt=02 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 5 Spd=480 MxCh= 0

root@Fonera:/etc/usb_modeswitch#

I used vi to create the file /etc/usb-modeswitch.conf with values:
######################################

DefaultVendor= 0x0421

The last 3 lines were completely random from some website configuring a Huawei to a linux desktop enviroment (slackware?), so that could be the problem. Windows device management gave me Hardware ids VID_0421&PID_0624 for the installed CS-17 modem driver. I really hope this would help and Finally make the 3G project take some steps ahead.

I could really use the USB 3G support since it's the only means of connecting and the main reason why I got the boxes in the 1st place. If it would be more stable, the Fonspot sharing would also serve the purpose better. I understand a bit more out of these than an average pig out of a moon rocket, but seems like many people are even more confused with the Fonera 2.0n 3G issues than I am. Let's get this thing on the move, eh?

Cheers and merry christmas,

3,1025,Port forwarding does not work from the internal network,fon-network,2.3.6.1 (Gari jr.),,enhancement,,investigate,2011-03-24T09:07:06Z,2012-12-19T12:47:39Z,"Due to a limitation in how DNAT forwarding works, a port forward set up in the Settings -> Firewall -> Port forwarding section does not work from the internal LAN.

This is a well-known problem for port forwarding, which I'll illustrate with an example. Say way forward port 1000 to a server at 192.168.1.100. Suppose the public address of our Fonera is 203.0.113.1.

When a client connects from the internet to 203.0.113.1:1000, the Fonera receives the request packet on its WAN port, changes the destination address into 192.168.1.100:1000 and sends it to the server on the LAN network. The server processes the request and sends a reply back to the internet client. This reply has to pass the Fonera on its way to the internet, where the Fonera can change the source address this time, from the 192.168.1.100 set by the server to 203.0.113.1 again (which is what the internet client expects).

Now, when a client from the LAN, say 192.168.1.200, connects to 203.0.113.1, things get different. The packet gets passed to the Fonera (on its LAN port), since the client thinks it should go onto the internet. The Fonera then changes the destination address into 192.168.1.100 and sends the request off to the server. The source address of the request packet is unmodified, so it's still 192.168.1.200. This means the reply packet gets sent to 192.168.1.200 as well. The server can now send this reply directly to the client, bypassing the Fonera, since it knows the client is on the same network. However, this also means that the Fonera does not get the chance to ""undo"" the address translation on the reply packet. The client now gets a reply from the server, 192.168.1.100, but it has sent a request to the WAN ip, 203.0.113.1, so it discards the packet.

Hence, using just a DNAT rule for port forwarding doesn't work for internal requests. There is a solution for this: When a request comes from the internal network, do SNAT in addition to DNAT. This also rewrites the source address of a packet, making it look like it comes from the Fonera. This causes the internal server to send replies back to the Fonera, instead of directly to the client.

Care should be taken to only apply the SNAT to packets that need it (i.e., come from the internal network). Using SNAT in this way screws up request logging on the server, since all requests seem to come from the Fonera, the server never learns the real source of the request.

As an additional not: The current (2.3.6.1) firmware is already selectively applying the DNAT forwarding to packets coming from the WAN port. This means that forwarding from the LAN port just doesn't happen and the above explanation is not completely applicable.

Furthermore, I've looked around a bit for implementing this, but there's a few problems:
 * In the fw_redirect function that adds the forwarding rules, we only know the ""src"" interface, not the ""dst"" interface (which is the one that needs special treatment).
 * It requires changing the uci_firewall code quite a bit (and also the meaning of 'redirect' entries in the firewall uci config. This might cause problems on the long run, when upgrading to a newer OpenWRT version.

Even with the above problems, it seems it might be useful to implement this anyway. The main advantage is that people can actually test their port forwards from their internal network. Currently a lot of people think their port forwards don't work because they (only) test from their local network...",matthijs

There is a buffer overflow in drivers/media/video/uvc/uvc_ctrl.c:

INFO: 0xf2c5ce08-0xf2c5ce0b. First byte 0xa1 instead of 0xcc

A fixed size 8-byte buffer is allocated, and a variable size field is read
into it; there is no particular bound on the size of the field (it is
dependent on hardware and configuration) and it can overflow [also
    verified by inserting printk's.]

The patch attempts to size the buffer to the correctly.

In some cases, you might want to fix this connection to a specific access point (also, it might be needed to prevent the Fonera from connecting to itself, not sure).

This would be achieved by specifying the BSSID (MAC address) of the AP to connect to in the wifi-wan settings. This would need to be passed to wpa_supplicant on 2.0g (which should be rather easy). On 2.0n, it should be passed to the wifi driver (and probably to ap_client as well, so it can pass the BSSID on to the wifi driver and can prevent trying to connect when the BSSID wasn't even found).",matthijs

after managing to compile the dav2fs module for v2.3.7.0 rc 1 i have verified it's even possible to upload (unlimited size files!) to dropbox with a simple trick: by using the owncloud dropbox module, mounting the dropbox in owncloud (on a hosted server, php webspace, etc.), and copying the files to the owncloud from fonera by using the dav2fs module (which is actually issuing a simple ""cp"" bash command).[[BR]]

3,1255,OScam as Fonera2.0n application.,fon-plugins,N/A,,request,,new,2013-03-16T00:52:26Z,2013-03-18T12:11:13Z,"Hello all.
I have a openwrt-fonera2n-squashfs.img image file from [http://www.streamboard.tv/ OScam streamboard] mod.
He added the OScam softcam to the fonera2.0n.
You can download the fonera2.0n image with OScam included [https://mega.co.nz/#!MJgk1aiZ!GLnE3mEpabr3xI2OuaPga0tjf2lHYSnesvTTN44P4Hw
here at MEGA] (unzip the download).
OScam = openSource softcam, for decrypting encrypted dvb radio & tv (terrestrial, satellite, coax)
If you run this image on a fonera2.0n, and you added a Omnikey usb smartcardreader like the 1021 to the fonera, then the fonera can be used as DVB radio & TV decoder/decrypter ;-)
DVB-receivers/pvr's on the network request the fonera OScam, and one of the receivers with sat dish are used to send smartcardupdates back to the fonera oscam to update the smartcard.

'''It's fantastic.'''
But....OScam can be easily updated. Just disable oscam and overwrite the binary with the newest one that can be found here:
[http://download.oscam.cc/index.php?&direction=0&order=mod&directory=1.20_TRUNK/mips-fonera2 MIPS Fonera OScam binary]

And how can I update the Fonera firmware without losing the OScam functionality? I think the solution is, make OScam as fon application plugin for dev firmware.

If it possible that you fonosfera people can take out the oscam components (the things that are added to run OScam) and put them in a OScam.tar.gz application for fonera2.0n ?
That would be so awesome, and i guess that a lot of fonera2.0 and satellite/coax/terrestrial users (example enigma2 users) will be so incredibly happy!",herrsmoking@…
3,1176,Reduce memory usage on 2.0g,fon-base-firmware,2.3.7.0 beta2,Firmware 2.3,task,,investigate,2012-06-13T13:59:02Z,2012-10-04T16:35:02Z,"The current stack of applications in the firmware takes up quite some RAM. Since the 2.0g only has 32MB of RAM, its RAM is sometimes nearly full when booting up already.

A particular symptom of this memory usage is that uploading a new firmware trhough the webinterface often does not work and results in an out of memory condition with the oom-killer killl lucid, stopping the firmware upgrade. A simple workaround is to disable samba (Windows network shares), which seems to free up sufficient space to prevent further problems.

There is a patch for chillispot in the OpenWRT repository, which reduces the memory requirements of chillispot somewhat, which will be applied soon. This does not seem to be sufficient to prevent the above upgrade problem, though.

Samba also uses quite some memory (500K + 700K of heap for smbd and nmbd), so this is a good candidate to look for improvements.

lucid is also fairly big (500K on startup, of which 200-400K is duplicated for every request handler process). However, a lot of this memory is probably lua data structures, so it's likely that there's no big ""lump"" of memory that can be reduced somewhere, but instead the memory is fairly distributed among the various lua modules...",matthijs
