dwc_otg module causing the device to be unstable

Reported by: vadim@… Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: other Version: 2.3.7.0 beta1
Severity: unknown
Cc: Hardware: 2.0n (FON2300)

Description

Whenever I try to download any content at speeds more than a couple of hundred kbps from any source on the internet my fedora becomes unresponsive and even failing to respond to ping. I tracked down the issue and found out that dwc_otg kernel module is the cause. When I unload it the device is very stable, if I load it back and try to run a speed test or watch a video on youtube - it misbihaves.

Ok, this is only reproducible with a  Creative SB1170 Wireless Audio Transmitter attached to the USB port. Please note that the snd-* modules have nothing to do with that as I unloaded them all: # lsmod | grep snd | cut -f1 -d' ' | xargs rmmod

I tried running a longer download and monitor the device availability. Whenever I plug the card in it starts dropping packets, when I remove it - everything is back to normal.

Apart from the instability, does the wireless audio device actually work?

Hi, sorry for the late answer. Yes the card works just fine. There are no audible artifacts in the audio stream on the analogical output nor wireless.

Hi Vadmin, sorry for the long delay.

I'm wondering if this might be a power draw issue. Your audio device is a wireless transmitter, which might draw more power than the Fonera has available. Could you try connecting the device through a powered hub? For debugging, you should also try connecting it through an unpowered hub, see what that does.

Hi, unfortunately I already sold my Fonera. It was a great piece of hardware, but it couldn't do everything I expected it to so I replaced it with an atom based PC. Sorry I can't help.

Since we can't reproduce this bug and it only occurs with very specific hardware, I'll close this report. If someone else runs into a similar problem, we can always have a closer look at this.

Note that we'll be updating the USB driver in the beta3 release, so perhaps that will fix this issue anyway.
