#1073 confirmed enhancement

Allow specifying the BSSID in wifi-client mode

Reported by: matthijs Owned by:

Component: fon-network Version: N/A
Severity: normal

Description

If you have a bunch of AP's with the same SSID (say a couple of Fonera's broadcasting MyPlace?), then you currently instruct a Fonera to connect to a specific AP. You can only specify the SSID and let wpa_supplicant (2.0g) or the wifi driver (2.0n) decide which AP to connect to.

In some cases, you might want to fix this connection to a specific access point (also, it might be needed to prevent the Fonera from connecting to itself, not sure).

This would be achieved by specifying the BSSID (MAC address) of the AP to connect to in the wifi-wan settings. This would need to be passed to wpa_supplicant on 2.0g (which should be rather easy). On 2.0n, it should be passed to the wifi driver (and probably to ap_client as well, so it can pass the BSSID on to the wifi driver and can prevent trying to connect when the BSSID wasn't even found).

I also can't seem to change the BSSID it connects FROM (WAN MAC address). Related issue?

That would be a separate issue, with a completely different fix. I'm not sure how hard it is to fix, but if this would be useful to you, feel free to open up a new ticket for this.
