#1082 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Include AP Watchdog feature when in WiFi WAN mode

Some firmwares imclude a feature called AP watchdog. This features makes the router, when in WiFi? cliente mode, check every X seconds its gateway IP adress (a ping?). If there is no response, the routers reboots itself so it can try connection again. Woould it be too difficult to include this? Thanks.

Normally, there's no need to retry the connection: If the wifi connection breaks, it should automatically reconnect. On 2.0n, this is handled by the ap_client program, on 2.0g the driver or wpa_supplicant should handle that.

The only thing this doesn't catch is if the wifi connection remains intact, but the connection breaks for some other reason. AFAICS, this should only occur if you somehow change the IP configuration on the AP or something like that, without resetting the wifi signal. So I don't actually think this should happen at all.

I assume you are having problems that you think would be solved by such a watchdog? Could you describe the problems you're having, perhaps we can solve the underlying problem (if any) instead of adding your suggested workaround?

Decodecoding, any thoughts?

Hi, After the explanation you gave I thought there was no need to include this feature.

My request was only based in the experience I had with other firmwares such as dd-wrt which included it but honestly, since I'm not an expert on this subject, I can't tell whether it is a necesary feature or not...

It seems this feature isn't needed after all.
