Description

I'm using apple iphone 4 and just setup my Fon spot a week ago. I can connect to the point called "MyPlace?" and have registered my unit.

When I try to connect to FON_FREE_INTERNET i get an IP address of 192.168.182.10 255.255.255.0 router 192.168.182.1 DNS 192.168.0.1 I cant access any web pages when I launch Safari, and when I use the iPhone Fon APP it either stays at "checking login status" or tells me wifi is switched off !.

Am I doing something wrong, I feel now that my purchase of the Fon unit has been a compleat pain and a waste of my money!

After you connect to the FON_FREE_INTERNET page, you should just navigate to any webpage and you should be redirected to the FON login portal. After logging in there, you should be able to browse all of the internet.

As I understand it, you don't get this login portal at all? Does Safari display an error?

Do you have a laptop with wifi to see if it works from there?

I don't know how the iPhone app is supposed to work, and this trac is really meant for firmware bugs (and I'm not sure this is one), so you might want to try contacting support@… (as well).

Yes my laptop using wifi I can select the FON_FREE_INTERNET and am redirected when launching Safari, I login and can surf the web.

The iPhone however gives an error " safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"

What fonspot are you using? 2.0n or SIMPL?

Changed 18 months ago by matthijs

Ok, never mind the last question, the support team looked up that you have a SIMPL.

I'm forwarding this to the QA team, they'll try to reproduce the problem using an iPhone (I don't have any available here).

One more question: What iPhone and iOS version are you using exactly?

QA suggested that recent problems with iPhones have been caused by cookies being disabled. Could you check if your iPhone is configured to accept cookies?

I have checked and cookies are enabled.

Is this relevant.

On the iPhone, While setting up the username and password in the app, I enter my email address and password, and leave the "@btinternet.com" as the email suffix though that is not my address and while its at that setting the tick box for accepting the terms and conditions is available and I can read the terms and conditions. Now when I correct the email suffix to "@btconnect.com" the accept terms etc are made unavailable, so its impossible to properly register with anything other than a .btinternet account. Is this an error in the app or is there another process to follow when you have a non .btinternet account. Replying to matthijs:

I have done further experiments and am sure the Fon Simple is working as it should, I connected to my FON_FREE_INTERNET using my laptop and do get the access I expected. Sadly the iPhone app continues to give problems.

So, if I understand you correctly, the iPhone App won't allow you to enter any e-mailaddress except when it ends in @btinternet.com (but you've registered your Fonera to an emailaddress with @btconnect.com)? If you change your e-mail address, I'm not surprised it doesn't connect to the hotspot, but you should be able to enter the correct e-mail address.

Which iPhone app are you using exactly and which version?

in reply to: ↑ 10   Changed 17 months ago by anonymous

No you miss understand, the iPhone app has a selection of email hosts for selection by radio button, the only one that allows you to tick the accept conditions box is the .btinternet.com the others grey out the box. The registration was done on my laptop to my .btconnect address. I have not changed my email address, I was experimenting with the others to try and work out why the iPhone app is so confusing.

I also have an iPad and have the app working properly on that, so the problem is with the iPhone app. Just close this ticket as I'm just giving up on it.

Thanks for trying to help, Bob.

It turns out there are actually two different iPhone Apps: The official FON one and a second one by BT. Unfortunately, the appstore only offers the BT app in the UK, but not the official FON one. However, judging from you e-mail address, you have a regular Fonera with a regular account, not an account through BT.

You could try to change the country setting for you iTunes application to a different country (e.g., Spain) to see if you can get the regular application. I'm not sure if that is possible, though, I don't use iTunes myself.
