p.s.: Path for the root of samba should be not the same as root path for ftp. Optionally you could create a path also for ftp, but the best is to keep ftp root at the root of hard disk.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Version changed from 2.3.7.0 beta2 to N/A

This is something we should implement as part of proper user management (#923), since it is hard to do this properly otherwise.

Hi Matthijs, I see you closed this one with wontfix. I agree that many tickets are old/useless, but specifically this one was a request I needed. Isn't there other resolution like 'future fix' o something like that ? I see you are 'bulk' closing tickets, how you will keep a track what is important and what is useless ? If all tickets will be 'closed wontfix' you will lose track of them.

In this case, we're planning to not implement the actual feature request you proposed, since implementing just this will probably become messy (there's no good place in the webui to put it right now).

However, when we implement proper user management for the filesharing, I think we can include this in a more general manner: If you can give specific users access to specific (parts of) disks, you can effectively make sure only a part of your disk is shared, which should satisfy your requirements, right?

I just noticed that I referenced the wrong ticket in my previous comment, I mean ticket #850. I also seem to have forgotten to note down this extra requirement in that ticket, probably my mind overflowed a bit after reviewing just under 500 tickets :-)

Does this relieve your concerns?

specific users access to specific (parts of) disks - yes, this looks right for me. Thanks!
