Wireless settings issues

Reported by: Pietro B. <pgiando@…> Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone: Firmware 2.3.7.0
Component: fon-base-firmware Version: 2.3.7.0 beta3
Severity: unknown
Cc: Hardware: 2.0n (FON2300)

Description

I'm experiencing some issues about wireless functions of my Fonera 2.0n. They even persists from the last firmware revisions, and still are not fixed by this 2.3.7.0 beta 3 release.

  1. When setting "Mixed g/n" bitrate (I have a desktop equipped with "n" wireless card), android and iOS devices aren't capable to connect to the router, even if they reach wireless signal. So I'm forced to keep the bitrate to "g only".
  1. When setting wireless channel to "Automatic", no device (mobile or desktop/laptop) is capable to connect to the router. It's necessary to set channel number manually to a specific one.

  • Milestone set to Firmware 2.3.7.0
  • Status changed from new to investigate

As for point 1., are you indeed implying that the android and iOS only support 11g? Or are they 11n capable as well? In the former case, I'll try to see if I can connect in g/n mode using a g-only laptop, in the latter case, it seems I'll have to get an Android client to test with.

As for point 2., I'm always using my 2.0n in Automatic mode, so it's not completely broken. I wonder if there is perhaps some regional limitation that prevents your clients from connecting to the Fonera (this doesn't seem likely, since I couldn't find any reference to channel limitations for Italy). Could you paste the output of the "iwconfig" command to see which channel was chosen?

When you say "not capable to connect", what do you mean exactly? Does the network not show up in scan results, or does the connection fail. Is there any error message?
