#1323 confirmed enhancement

enable share USB devices between computers with their full functionality

Reported by: fon2@… Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone: Firmware 2.3
Component: fon-base-firmware Version: N/A
Severity: major
Cc: Hardware: both

Description

Hello everyone,

as in http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/usb.iptunnel there is the possibility to use the foneras usb port as it would be a local usb port. As a result every kind of usb device can be used on the fonera as long as the client (which is in most case a windows client) has the necessary drivers for it. That would also be a workaround (?) for http://trac.fonosfera.org/fon-ng/ticket/1319 Also sharing the scanner (sequentially) can be done. Regards Alex B.

  • Component changed from unknown to fon-base-firmware
  • Hardware changed from 2.0n (FON2300) to both
  • Milestone set to Firmware 2.3
  • Severity changed from unknown to major
  • Status changed from new to confirmed

Sounds like a good idea, but we probably won't get around to that on the short term.

We already considered using the "usbip" kernel driver and protocol for this, but that would require a very new kernel on the Fonera. It looks like the package you linked works entirely from userspace, so that would probably make it easier to implement.
