#1337 confirmed enhancement

Increase or allow editing of lcp-echo-interval for PPPoE connections

Component: fon-network Version: N/A
Severity: minor
Cc: Hardware: both

I switched from using my 2.0N in bridging mode to a modem/router to using PPPoE/PPPoA direct to the ADSL modem.

Reliability has now gone down - around every few hours I found the session drops. Looking in logread, pppd is reporting "No response to 5 echo-requests"

/etc/ppp/options has lcp-echo-failure 5, lcp-echo-interval 1.

I think this should be increased as this means a line drop if there is only a 5 second delay. By increasing lcp-echo-interval to 5, the line remained stable.

Please change default setting, or add as optional parameter on web interface. I'm not sure there is a downside for longer timeout, expecially if LCP echos are running both ways from router to provider as well as provider to router.

  • Hardware changed from 2.0g (FON2202) to both
  • Milestone set to Firmware 2.3
  • Severity changed from unknown to minor
  • Status changed from new to confirmed
  • Type changed from request to enhancement
  • Version changed from Unknown to N/A

I guess making these configurable makes sense, let's do that in a later release.
