Upnp Media server [UPnP AV], feature still missing

Ticket #269 was closed because a media-server feature was allegedly included in FW 2.5.x, however I'm using 2.6.3 dev and there's no sign of any media-server functionality. Was it removed?

Ushare does not appear to be installed and there is no menu option to enable this feature.

Support for an Xbox / PS3 compatible media server would be a killer feature for the device. It would eliminate the need for me to go out and buy a plogoplug or some seperate media-server device.

I've asked about this, the story is as follows. Ushare was enabled in 2.3.5-DEV, but an issue was found with symlinks (which made ushare pretty much useless). For this reason, it was disabled again in 2.3.6 (we didn't have a suitable upnp media client available for testing).

I'll try to look at this issue soon, let's hope my Sony Bravia TV isn't too picky :-)

Speaking as a plain old user - the manual approach described in the forum really isnt going to cut it. It's way to complex for all but developers.

Something like this really ought to be an automatic install.

If you can get this working it's going to be a far more useful feature than some of the plugins (e.g. webcam support, internet radio), since it's a perfect compliment to built-in bittorrent.

You're absolutely right. What I meant was, that when a developer will be looking at this issue to include ushare, they should also have a look at that forum thread for experiences, potential problems or testers. And of course, in the meanwhile the link might be useful to advanced users, but it's by no means sufficient to close this ticket :-)

 This topic suggests using  minidlna as an alternative to ushare. Apparently it works with Sony Bravia tv's, while ushare doesn't.

I confirm that minidlna works too with new Samsung 6 series (UE40C6000 and LE37C650) in ubuntu, but i can´t find any sources for the fonera 2.0n

I don't think I understand the question here. If you're just asking about the status of this ticket, please don't (especially not with multiple tickets at the same time). If there is progress, we'll add it, but there's not progress yet.

This ticket is open for almost 2 years now, while minidlna media server was meanwhile implemented by someone, I'm using it and it works fine ! The only problem with is that not official, not installable by fon download server. This means if I reset my router I have to dig out from very old forum posts how to reinstall it, that took me last time a full day of work. Happened also that the download was not available because the original developer didn't updated a deleted fileshare link. Don't want to rush thingh....but really...it's just about making it official.
