#916 closed bug (test_in_newer_version)

mountd crashes

Reported by: matthijs Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: fon-base-firmware Version: (Gari jr.)
Severity: unknown
Cc: Niko <dnkrupinski@…> Hardware: 2.0n (FON2300)

(Issue originally reported on IRC / by email, IIRC)

Every now and then mountd crashes, partially breaking access to the USB disks and screwing up the WebGUI where USB disks are involved. A bit of debugging with a custom mountd has shown that the crashes actually are caused by segfaults.

The original reporter suffered from this issue very regularly (a few times per day IIRC).

The next step for this bug would be to get a core dump, or run a debugger on the affected Fonera itself.

Workaround for this problem (if you have a firmware with ssh access) are the following steps:

  1. check that no mountd is running anymore
  2. unmount any inaccessible usb device
  3. restart mountd

Otherwise you have to reboot Fonera.

  • Resolution set to test_in_newer_version
  • Status changed from new to closed

As part of the upcoming firmware release, we're reviewing old open tickets to see if they are still relevant, which is why you get this response now.

A while ago, some mountd improvements have been committed, so hopefully this problem is gone now.

If this issue still occurs with the rc2 firmware, feel free to leave a comment here so we can further investigate.
