#937 closed bug (test_in_newer_version)

Wireless download speed limited to 35Mbps

Reported by: ruitsbarbosa@… Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: fon-wifi Version: 2.3.6.1 (Gari jr.)
Severity: unknown
Cc: Hardware: 2.0n (FON2300)

Description

Hi,

I have an optical fiber connection to the Internet with 100Mbps download, 10Mbps upload. So far, all the speed tests I performed via Wireless N got me a speed up to 35Mbps download. If I connect my computer through an ethernet cable it reaches 85/90Mbps.

My computer is side-by-side the Fonera 2.0n and the router has QoS disabled.

  • Status changed from new to investigate

We're planning to update the wireless driver in the next release (2.3.7.0), though it might take a while still. For now, I want to hold off from looking at your issue closely until then.

In the meanwhile, you might want to check if you're not on or close to a crowded wireless channel and perhaps switch to a fixed channel away from other networks. You might be able to improve things by switching to N-only mode as well.

Does an update means that we will get more range and speed with Wireless?

That might be, though I haven't seen the changelog of the update yet. It might also highly depend on the environment, of course.

As part of the upcoming 2.3.7.0 firmware release, we're reviewing old open tickets to see if they are still relevant, which is why you get this response now.

If this issue still occurs with the 2.3.7.0 rc2 firmware, feel free to leave a comment here so we can further investigate.
