#958 closed enhancement (fixed)

cache headers from luci

Reported by: till <klimpong@…> Owned by:

Component: fon-web Version: (Gari jr.)
Severity: unknown
Cc: Hardware: 2.0n (FON2300)

Sometimes when my DSL disconnects (every 24 hrs) and I happen to catch it, I get a screen which will eventually redirect me to luci.

So even though the DSL modem re-connects almost immediately, the fon screen will still show up for a URL I had tried when it disconnected because the browser "caches" that.

I propose that the web-ui/luci emits the following headers:

Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate, pre-check=0, post-check=0
Expires: Tue, 31 Mar 1981 05:00:00 GMT
Last-Modified: Wed, 03 Nov 2010 11:11:56 GMT

That would help.

I'm afraid that won't be enough: While the Fonera is offline, it returns a FON IP address (since there is no connection, the only alternative would be to not return any address, but that would cause a browser error). The problem here is not that the browser caches the actual page, but it caches the DNS result (Even though the TTL is set to 1 second!) , causing your browser to continue to contact the FON servers for the page. This should also mean that after the connection is back up, you should no longer get the "Your internet is misconfigured" page, but probably a fon (404) page?

This is at least the behaviour I have been seeing, perhaps your situation is indeed different. You could try if your headers would help using http-equiv tags in the html, the html is stored at /www/splash.html on your Fonera.

As part of the upcoming firmware release, we're reviewing old open tickets to see if they are still relevant, which is why you get this response now.

Since this ticket was created, the "orange screen" splash screen was removed from the firmware entirely (See #898 for details), so this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
