Wired network stopped working

Description

I have connected my computer to the Fonera 2.0n via LAN port 1. Since about yesterday 7pm CET the wired network doesn't work anymore. Wireless works.

I tried different cables and different ports. The green led for the port blinks on the Fonera. I'll try later with another computer where I have wireshark.

/etc/config/plugfons does not give any clue as to whether I have v1 or v2 of the hotfix.

Oops, I have v2 of the hotfix. And I hadn't installed it yet (it wasn't so hot :) when I reported the problem, so it is not related to the hotfix. Can you change the summary?

I've now placed the cable on the modem (disabling the Fonera WAN input) and network works, so it is not a cable problem.

All of the output you pasted looks ok, so I don't think it's a firewall problem (and since wifi and lan are properly bridged, it would be weird if wireless did work).

Is it just the LAN ports that don't work, or doesn't the WAN port work either?

Did you try a reboot? It's a bit of a lame solution, but perhaps it works?

If you want to do some dumping, you can also install the tcpdump package on your Fonera (you'll want to install  http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/Plugin_opkgfix to fix opkg and then run opkg install update and opkg install tcpdump.

However, the eth0 on the Fonera only sees the WAN output and a bunch of other packets all from the client computer's wireless interface on 192.168.10.137. Here I'm connecting to the Fonera via the wireless, and filtering the WAN packets on 10.37.251.x (they are a lot):

So the eth0 interface on the Fonera sees none of the traffic sent to it by the client (running MacOS X here, I can try Linux or Windows as well).

Could you try dumping on the eth0.1 interface? That's the real LAN interface, eth0 is both LAN and WAN (due to the use of an embedded switch which uses VLANs to distinguish between the WAN and LAN ports). Note that this doesn't necessarily mean eth0 shows both LAN and WAN traffic, it's a bit complicated...

Hmm, good point. That zero counter was also present in your first ifconfig paste. At least that indicates we should be looking at a fairly low level, not firewalling rules etc.

Could you paste the output of the "switch dump", "switch vlan dump" and "switch reg r 48" commands? That shows the state of the internal switch in the Fonera.

Argh, read your comment too late: rebooting didn't do it, but power off/on fixed it. :) Even lamer, but now I see a more reassuring

Weird, perhaps you had some sort of power dip that put the switch into an undefined state. Anyway, if rebooting didn't help, I doubt those commands would have returned something out of the ordinary: The switch is reconfigured on every boot by some init script, so the problem was probably even lower than that.

Good to hear it's working again!
